Professor Ramamurti does research and consulting on strategy and innovation in emerging economies. His earlier work also focused on business-government relations in emerging economies. He has published several articles and books on multinationals from emerging markets and on the topic of 鈥渞everse innovation.鈥 He teaches courses on the global business environment and global strategy, and electives on Competing in Emerging Markets.

Landry Sign茅 is a David M. Rubenstein Fellow in the Global Economy and Development Program at the Brookings Institution. He joins the Africa Growth Initiative where his research focuses on the political economy of growth, sustainable development, governance, fragile and failed states, regional integration, and business in Africa.

Professor Sign茅 is a distinguished fellow at Stanford University鈥檚 Center for African Studies, chairman of the Global Network for Africa鈥檚 Prosperity, an Andrew Carnegie Fellow, a 2016 Woodrow Wilson Public Policy Fellow, and a professor and senior adviser on international affairs to the chancellor at the University of Alaska Anchorage. He serves as special adviser to world leaders on international and African affairs.

Professor Sign茅 has been recognized as a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader for 鈥渇inding innovative solutions to some of the world鈥檚 most pressing issues鈥 and as a Tutu Fellow. Previously, Professor Sign茅 served as president of a strategy firm and as a visiting scholar at the University of Oxford. He also served on the board of AMPION Catalyst for Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Africa, Citizens Governance Initiative, and the United Nations Association of Canada鈥揗ontreal, and was appointed by a United Nations Undersecretary-General to serve on the Global Network on Digital Technologies for Sustainable Urbanization.

Professor Sign茅 has authored many academic and policy publications focused on Africa, the global political economy, the politics of economic reform and foreign aid, emerging and frontier markets, institutional change, political regimes, state capacity, service delivery, and governance. Among those publications are "Innovating Development Strategies in Africa: The Role of International, Regional and National Actors" and the forthcoming "African Development, African Transformation: How Institutions Shape Development Strategy," both published by Cambridge University Press. His work has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Harvard International Review.

Professor Sign茅 holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science as well as a master's in Political Science from Jean Moulin Lyon III University, and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Montreal. Additionally, he attended Stanford University for Postdoctoral Studies in Political Science, attended the Executive Program in Leadership at the University of Oxford, and studied Global Leadership and Public Policy for the 21st Century at Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education.

Anil Gupta is the Michael D. Dingman Chair in Strategy and Entrepreneurship in the Robert H. Smith School of Business and a professor in the Department of Management and Organization. His research focuses on emerging markets, specifically China and India, frugal innovation, global strategy and organization, and corporate innovation and entrepreneurship. 

In a 2010 cover story on innovation in emerging economies, Gupta was named by The Economist as one of the world鈥檚 rising superstars. He is one of only three professors in the world to have been elected a Lifetime Fellow of the Academy of Management, Strategic Management Society and Academy of International Business.

Gupta serves as a columnist for Bloomberg Businessweek, a contributing editor for Chief Executive magazine and a contributor to Harvard Business Review鈥檚 HBR.org. His opinion pieces have also been published in The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Chief Executive, Daily Telegraph, China Daily and Economic Times. He has been interviewed by Harvard Business Review, The Economist, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, USA Today, Forbes, BBC, CNBC, Bloomberg TV, Reuters TV, New Delhi TV and CCTV China.

Gupta is the author of Global Strategies for Emerging Asia (2012), as well as more than 70 papers in leading academic journals, and coauthor of two books on global business.

Gupta has been a consultant to many fortune 500 companies, including IBM, Marriott, First Data Corporation and Monsanto and serves as chief advisor to the China Institute, a Washington, D.C.-based research and consulting organization. He previously served as a visiting professor at Stanford University and Dartmouth College.

Kislaya Prasad, PhD

Dr. Prasad is a Research Professor at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland. He received his Ph.D. in Economics and M.S. in Computer Science from Syracuse University. Previous positions include Professor of Economics at Florida State University and Research Officer at the University of Cambridge. His principal research focus is on the computability and complexity of individual decisions and economic equilibrium, innovation and diffusion of technology, and social influences on economic behavior. His research has been published in leading economic journals such as the Journal of Monetary Economics, Journal of Mathematical Economics, International Journal of Game Theory, and Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control. Current projects include medical treatment variations and diffusion of technologies in medicine, the complexity of choice under uncertainty, and experimental tests of contract theory. His research is currently funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation. Dr. Prasad is also a Guest Scholar at the Center on Social and Economic Dynamics, The Brookings Institution, Washington D.C.

Jeff Hooke is a senior finance lecturer at the Johns Hopkins Carey School of Business.  Earlier, he was a managing director at Focus, LLC, an investment bank serving middle market companies.  Previously, he was a director of Emerging Markets Partnership (a $5 billion private equity fund), a principal investment officer of the World Bank Group, and an investment banker with Lehman Brothers.

Hooke has been quoted widely in the business media. He is the author of five books; the most recent book was published in October 2021:  The Myth of Private Equity, An Inside Look at Wall Street鈥檚 Transformative Investments鈥 (Columbia University Business School Press). He has co-authored several peer-reviewed academic papers in finance and has written many position papers for non-profit think tanks on a pro bono basis. He holds an MBA from the Wharton School and a BS from the University of Pennsylvania.

Bobby Zhou’s research focuses on competitive marketing strategies, in particular, pricing and promotion. He uses both analytical models as well as experimental approaches in his research. His work has been published in the Journal of Marketing Research, Marketing Science, and Management Science. He has presented papers at the INFORMS Marketing Science conference, INFORMS POMS conference, UT Dallas FORMS conference, Summer Institute in Competitive Strategy (SICS) at UC Berkeley, DC IO Day, among others. He teaches Marketing Research Methods in the undergraduate programs, Pricing at the MBA/MS programs, and Analytical Models in Marketing in the PhD programs. He also serves on the editorial board of Decision Science, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Journal of Interactive Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Retailing, and Marketing Science.
